Chronic Pain Management

Dealing with ongoing pain can be overwhelming and can impact every area of your life.

Interestingly, pain is not solely determined by the original cause, but is largely influenced by our individual responses to it.

These responses can be conscious or non-conscious and are affected by factors such as the injury itself, our beliefs, attitudes, character, prior experiences, and how our nervous system has responded to these factors.

People dealing with chronic pain often have tried various treatments, some of which may have worsened their condition or provided no relief, leading to fear and apprehension.

Additionally, imaging may show certain injuries or degenerative changes that may or may not be the primary factors influencing their pain levels.

This is why addressing chronic pain requires a multifaceted approach that considers both the mind and the body in treatment.

Our team of physiotherapists will collaborate with you to identify the factors influencing your pain so that we can support you in improving your quality of life.

Our goal is to empower you by providing the tools and strategies to overcome your pain and minimise its impact on your life.

We offer various treatment approaches to assist the body and nervous system in directly addressing your pain, including ANF therapy.

In addition to providing education about pain and how the brain interprets and processes it, it is crucial for you to be well-informed and empowered to effect change in your situation.

Maladaptive neuroplasticity in the brain can be a contributing factor to long-term pain, but there are ways to reverse these maladaptive responses.

While some health professionals may have suggested that your pain is purely psychological, chronic pain is a complex issue with known changes in how the brain processes it.

The good news is that neuroplasticity can also be harnessed to reverse some of these maladaptive responses.

Physiotherapy as we age

As we age, our body systems become less efficient, leading to reduced balance and strength, and an increased risk of falls and related injuries like hip fractures or other bone and soft tissue injuries. The good news is that there are ways to slow down these effects and maintain mobility and independence.

At Kinder Allied Health, we offer one-on-one therapy as well as group falls reduction classes that focus on building strength, mobility, and balance.

We customise exercises to fit your individual needs, providing a great opportunity to socialise while staying fit and active.

This can help you remain in your home and reduce the need for nursing care or home assistance.

During individual sessions, our physiotherapists use various techniques to help reduce aches and pains, increase blood flow and circulation, improve joint mobility, and enhance movement patterns and postures.

Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy/ Rehabilitation

Cardiorespiratory physiotherapy is a specialised therapy focused on addressing conditions affecting the heart (cardiac system) and lungs (respiratory system).

Depending on your specific condition and needs, your therapist may use manual therapy, breathing techniques, or general fitness and strengthening exercises.

Conditions that Cardiorespiratory physiotherapy can help include:
– Cystic Fibrosis
– Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
– Asthma
– Bronchitis
– Bronchiectasis
– Emphysema
– Respiratory infections such as pneumonia
– Heart attack (Myocardial Infarction)
– Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)
– Post-operative heart or lung surgery
– Heart failure/ Congestive Cardiac Failure (CCF)
– High blood pressure (hypertension)
– Peripheral Vascular Disease
– Chest pain (Angina)
– Heart or lung injuries

These specialised programs aim to improve heart and lung function, thus enhancing overall health and quality of life for individuals with cardiac or pulmonary conditions.

Neurological Rehabilitation

If you’re living with conditions like stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, or other neurological conditions, neurological rehabilitation can support your journey to improved function and independence.

Through targeted therapies and exercises, specialised care can help you regain motor skills, balance, and mobility, empowering you to live life to the fullest.

Orthopaedic Rehabilitation

Whether you are preparing for joint replacements, ligament repairs, spinal surgeries, or other procedures, pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation is crucial for optimising your recovery and outcomes.

Our personalised programs are designed to reduce pain, strengthen your body before surgery, and guide you through rehabilitation.

Our manual therapy techniques will help you regain joint movement, reduce pain, and improve healing outcomes, facilitating a smoother recovery and helping you regain function faster.

We will collaborate with your orthopedic surgeon to ensure that the recommended protocol is followed.

Scar Tissue Management

If you have undergone surgery or experienced an injury in the past that has resulted in scarring, it may cause feelings of embarrassment and affect your self-confidence.

Scars can also affect the fascial lines, leading to reduced movement and adhesions to other soft tissues or organs, which can impact biomechanics and cause pain and discomfort over time.

We use low-level laser therapy, scar tissue massage, and ANF therapy to help improve the appearance and mobility of scar tissue and reduce problematic adhesions.

This can affect any part of the body but is particularly problematic in abdominal surgeries, where bowel adhesions can develop and changes in the body’s rotational movements can impact biomechanics, leading to other musculoskeletal issues over time.

Workplace Ergonomics and Injury Prevention

If you’re experiencing discomfort or injuries related to your job, workplace ergonomics and injury prevention services can make a difference.

By assessing your workstation and providing ergonomic interventions, these programs help reduce the risk of workplace injuries and promote a healthier, more comfortable work environment, enhancing your productivity and well-being.

Hydrothearpy

Hydrotherapy utilises a heated pool environment to reduce stress on the body and increase resistance through tailored exercises. It helps to relax muscles and alleviate pain, while also enabling greater movement and exercises that may be challenging on land.

Benefits of hydrotherapy for adults include:
– Increased mobility
– Reduced pain and increased muscle length
– Calming effect due to the deep pressure of the water
– Improved circulation through hydrostatic pressure

Hydrotherapy is beneficial for individuals with conditions such as Osteoarthritis, Chronic Pain, Neurological Conditions, Fibromyalgia, as well as those with strength and mobility issues. It is often used as part of a treatment plan to build strength when pain or mobility issues limit participation in land-based exercises.

NeurOptimal /
Neurofeedback brain training

NeurOptimal is a dynamic EEG biofeedback system that is non-invasive and non-directive, and has no side effects.

It involves placing electrodes on the ear and scalp to allow feedback on the brain’s electrical activity to be read by the program and relayed back to the individual.

This relay of brain activity allows the brain to organically interpret and respond to changes, resulting in optimised brain function.

NeurOptimal works by bringing focus and attention to shifts in brain states, allowing you to be more focused in the present.

The result of this feedback is described to be similar to what is achieved through many years of meditation.

Users have reported calmer states of mind, improved brain functioning, improved focus and concentration, increased problem-solving abilities, improved sleep, enhanced stress management, improved performance, and a reduction in symptoms related to stress.

Results are usually reported between 1 and 5 sessions. Improvements are cumulative and improve with ongoing training sessions.

The great thing is that your brain is organically making the changes itself as a result of the feedback, so results are usually lasting.
